About Grain Rain

In Grain Rain, we welcome nourishing water that feeds and sustain the pulsating roots below. As Yosa Buson wrote, “In the spring rain, the pond and river have become one.” Water is life-giving and helps to fuel everything to come. Spring is a time of year the weather can dramatically transform a landscape. A hot spell may settle for a few days, causing the tree buds to swell and burst. Or perhaps, warm temperate days are cut short by unexpected snow flurries. Forests may leaf out overnight, and the breezy, airy feeling of early spring quickly transitions to the jolly spirit of early summer. Spring is a roller coaster, and we should be prepared for anything. Yet the propulsion is slowing down as we settle into a steadier rhythm to the year. In Grain Rain, we celebrate the final moments of spring as we look forward to the beginnings of summer. We bid a grateful farewell to the delicate blossoms and daffodils that are fading and patiently anticipate the wisteria and iris just emerging from their slumber.
